Whistle register就是海豚音的英文，学名叫哨音。由于这种声音好像哨子声般，所以称为“哨音”。而“海豚音”的俗称是因为这种声音与同海豚的2000赫兹至10万赫兹波长高频超声波相似，不过实际上哨音并未能达到到海豚声音的波长。
